If you love working outside in beautiful surroundings and are interested in joining us, read on! We are a happy and friendly group of volunteers – why not take a look at this video. Our volunteers make the Historic England Grade II registered gardens what they are, a lovely and welcoming place for volunteers and visitors. We welcome new volunteers year round. Apply on the form below. We also have 2 New Volunteer Days coming up on 9 March and 14 March, when potential volunteers can come and see the Gardens and meet the volunteers, before signing up.
Our volunteers maintain the Gardens and enable the Trust to continue to develop and restore the Gardens further. They also ensure a warm visitor welcome.
Gardening and garden maintenance on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays, with jobs for volunteers of all skill levels:
– Thursdays is the main volunteering day, when we have some 20 volunteers working across the Gardens, from 9.30am to 3.00pm, covering all aspects of gardening from digging and planting, to weeding, cutting back, pruning, dead heading and composting; and garden maintenance jobs, such as painting, carpentry and path laying.
– Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays there are smaller work groups, mostly focused on gardening, and operating to different times.
Volunteers must bring their own refreshments for the morning and lunch breaks, but we provide cake for volunteers on Thursdays.
Welcoming visitors on Open Sundays
Volunteers help with children’s craft activities, catering, selling garden produce and merchandise, guiding, car parking and general help in making the days a success.
The gates open at 11.00am, but we start setting up at 9.30 am and the day finishes at 5.00pm (4.00 in February). If you have any spare time between these hours it will make a big difference to us.
Welcoming visitors on Open Thursdays and for Group Visits
Volunteers help on the gate, with catering, selling garden produce and merchandise and tour guiding.
If you would like to join us on any of these days and you love nothing more than working in the great outdoors and making new friends – and would like to play an active role in making a big difference to these important gardens – either fill in the Volunteer Registration Form and post it to the address shown or fill in the form below to sign up.
