St Mary’s Church at Little Easton

The historic St Mary’s Church at Little Easton, near the Gardens, is of Norman origin. Its walls contain re-used Roman bricks and tiles. It has a 13th century wall painting and a 14th century fresco, old brasses and a chapel with monuments to the Maynard family. In its north chapel it has stained glass windows commemorating the Crusaders of the US Army Air Force and the friendship between the American airmen and the local people.

Memorial to the Crusaders

At Little Canfield, beside the B1256, there is a memorial to the Crusaders of the 386th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Force.

The Museum in Great Dunmow

The Museum shows memorabilia from the 190 & 620 Squadrons of the RAF, who were based at Easton Lodge from 1944 to 1946. It also holds the USAAF 386th Bomb Group archive of photographs and uniforms.
