Late May is stunning, with individual flowers to enjoy, making lovely vistas. This Calycanthus is a really cool flower, with its greeny petals and vivid centre, but numerous others are also – the waterlilies in the Peto Italian garden, Allium Cristophii in the walled garden, common spotted orchids in the Glade, foxgloves everywhere, to name but a few. The Robinia blossom is lovely, as is the Indian Horse Chestnut. And the bees were out and about in huge numbers enjoying the nectar.
It has been hot work for our volunteers but there is plenty of work in the shade too. And visitors enjoyed leisurely visits, including picnicking in the shade and playing with garden games on the croquet lawn.
