Lavender and butterflies enjoy the heat

Our volunteers are great at working in all weathers – but this heat is challenging them! They spent a couple of hours in the sun first thing, watering, picking fruit and deadheading – with one or two plants to add to the veg beds and borders. Then most of us retired to jobs in the shade – cutting back epicormic growth in Lime Wood, removing creeping thistles from the rough grass by the side of the Glade and mending the mower.

Helen from Discover Bushcraft has now collected the grasses she needs for the basket coil weaving workshop on 2 August at the Gardens. To book a place go to here.
