What a beautiful start to the new year

A deep frost and gloriously sunny blue skies lifted our spirits at the Gardens today. Sue likes to leave some flowers and dead heads for winter interest and this rose and others in the Italian garden were looking stunning, preserved in ice and glinting in the sunshine. We had plenty of heavy graft jobs to keep us warm:  laying cardboard and grass-cuttings to cover ground to clear it, in the West Wood; raking (yet more) leaves; tidying the entrance;  and deadhedging of fallen branches and piles of clippings. Thanks to Carole we recharged our energy with delicious millionaires shortbread!
