Cold but beautiful

There have been a few frosty nights now, so it doesn’t seem so bad that Sam and Richard and Ann and Valerie were cutting down the dahlias and the border perennials for the winter.

And this week we also did more planting, to give us even more to look forward to next season. It was rose week – so teams of two, socially distanced, set to and planted William and Catherine and the Lady of Shallot in the walled kitchen garden and Litchfield Angels in the Italian garden.  Meanwhile Jane worked on the cornus bed, Sam and Clare dug out nearly the last of the manure heap, Margaret weeded the cuttings from the cuttings course and Phil and Martin turned the compost.
