It’s nearly Halloween, but we can’t have spiders spoiling our refreshments offer at the last Open Day of the season this Sunday!

The Gardens are looking gorgeous, refreshed by the rains and not yet hit by frost! In the Italian Garden there’s colour from monkshood, asters, evening primrose, helenium and rudbeckia, to name but a few and the dahlias are still going strong in the walled kitchen garden. The reds, oranges and yellows of the autumn leaves are spreading across the Glade. The pumpkins, squashes and remaining veg are also ready for our visitors!

We were joined for our gardening day by Stansted Airport security staff who helped with clearance in the woodland. Meanwhile, John and Stephen put the finishing touches to the ramp into the Italian Garden; and the rest of us did lots of tidying jobs: hoeing out those freshly sprouted weeds, deadheading and cutting back. Then the heavens opened!
