Heave ho!

Our volunteers are not in training for a local tug-of-war competition, but were moving a heavy rock to the stumpery in the Glade!

It was a gorgeous day – blue sky and warm from early morning. On arrival I scared off a heron from the Italian garden and then the geese in the Glade flew back to the fishing lakes rather than have their picture taken!

By the time we closed up the Gardens, the Indian summer’s day had left the melons ripe and ready to be picked (unfortunately too early for the October Open Day); given the butterflies a late chance to enjoy the Michaelmas daisy flowers; and left all the day’s volunteers glowing from a beautiful day’s work.
