Even in drought the Gardens look beautiful

Visitors from Benfleet this week particularly noticed the splendour of the trees in the Gardens and loved the treehouse. They marvelled at how the volunteers have managed to keep colour in the Italian Garden although it hasn’t rained in months. So for the Open Day this Sunday, 22 July, the croquet lawn is not lush like last year, but the Gardens are still beautiful and a great place to while away a warm summer’s day, with entertainment and homemade cakes!

You could choose to use 15 minutes of your visit to sit still and count butterflies – and send the results to the Big butterfly count. We have had a huge number of whites this year and peacocks. We have also had plenty of bumblebees – and many sightings of hummingbird hawk moths.

The grass has been trimmed, trees tidied, flower beds weeded and to an extent watered … so all is ready.
