Many hands pull thistles more quickly

Pulling out creeping thistles before they seed has the added benefit of weakening their root system and they shouldn’t need further re-pulling for two or three years, we were advised this week by Saffron Walden Wildflower Group. So it was lucky that, two days later, we had a group of keen and hard working GSK volunteers with us for the day. They had all the thistles pulled from our wild flower area in an hour and so we had to find them other jobs to do too!

Meanwhile Steve showed us an ingenious approach to getting the water from the well into a hosepipe that will save a lot of effort with watering cans, until the drought is past. We all have our fingers crossed for rain – but not on 22 July our next Open Day, nor on any of the Group Visit days coming up!!
