Each week, Steve seems to plant more vegetables and don’t they look great!! Today, it was runner beans, to add to the maize, leeks, onions, chard, lettuce etc etc. The recent rains have also helped the soft fruit to swell, the fruit trees to put on new growth and of course has made the weeds and grasses rampant – so there’s lots of work for all of us!
Our next season of wild flowers is with us – principally foxgloves, but also spotted orchids in the long grass. There are roses everywhere – red in the car park, cream and beautifully scented cascading down the tree by the archive building and many more in the Italian Garden and walled kitchen garden. And the False Acacia trees are now dripping flowers, with the Indian Horse Chestnut’s panicles of pink beginning to open.
