With a full day’s sunshine our 20 volunteers had a great day today. New shrubs were planted and Ian managed to successfully move a strawberry tree (Arbutus Unedo), which had grown too large for the Italian garden, to a much more suitable place along one of the boundaries. Peter has been busy cleaning and preparing the bricks of one of the original liquid fertilizer pits in the walled garden. The pit will be re-built with the original bricks and lime mortar to become the new home for a fig tree. With the warmer temperature we are beginning to see the first buds of blossom emerge on the fruit trees in the walled garden and at last the daffodils are starting to make a stunning show in the glade and the lime wood.
