Do you love being outside in beautiful surroundings? Then why not join one of our happy and friendly groups of volunteers?
Our volunteers make a massive difference to these English Heritage Grade II listed gardens. Abandoned in 1950, the gardens are now going through the process of renewal and change – all down to the interest and sheer hard work of our friendly volunteers. There are various opportunities to suit all skill levels and abilities. Gardening sessions take place two days a week and we also require volunteers when we open to the public on nine Sundays a year. Current opportunities are:
Thursday – Covering all aspects of gardening from weeding, cutting back, pruning, potting up, digging and even painting and odd-jobbing. For these sessions, held between 10 am and 3 pm we provide a hot drink and homemade cake in the morning and volunteers who stay the whole day bring a packed lunch. We have an average of 14 volunteers at these sessions.
Saturday – Be part of the team renovating the 17th-century walled garden. Now in its third year of change, the difference is already amazing. We have new fruit trees and rose beds, grass areas and herb and flower beds, but still much more to do. For these sessions you would need to bring your own refreshments for the morning and lunch breaks, though there is usually cake at coffee time. We are a small group on Saturdays – between four and eight volunteers.
Open Sundays – We need help with children’s craft activities, catering, guiding, and general help in making the days a success. The gates open at 11.30am, but we start setting up at 10 am. If you have any spare time between these hours it will make a big difference to us.
If you would like to join us on any of these days and you love nothing more than working in the great outdoors and making new friends – and would like to play an active role in making a big difference to these important gardens – either fill in the volunteer registration form and post it to the address shown or alternatively email enquiries @eastonlodge.co.uk.
