Our next big restoration project will be the balustrading around the lilypond. But while we are putting the plans for that into place and fundraising for it, we have funded the laying of a few additional slabs to make it easier to cross from the restored steps to the existing paving.

Meanwhile, the focus of the day was on our trees in advance of our next Open Day on 16 August. We had a lesson on fan pruning of the stoned fruit trees in the walled kitchen garden from Neil from the East of England Apples and Orchards Project. Meanwhile other volunteers pruned the trees in the Memorial Walk in the Glade to improve their shape and health. And the designs were drawn up for plaques for labels for our ten champion trees.

We also continued to harvest our produce. We picked mulberries, raspberries and plums, so we are all set for a jam tombola at the Open Day. We picked a couple of sweetcorn to test whether they are ready – and they will be. And we filled lavender bags.
