Pick of the week

These grapes on a pretty vine were revealed today in the Italian Garden when Jane removed the weeds in front of them. They have obviously enjoyed the long hot and dry summer!

Today volunteers fanned out across the Gardens, picking up boughs brought down by the winds – so far mostly fairly small ones that won’t be sorely missed, but more wind is forecast. Other tidying involved weeding, cutting grass edges, hoeing, deadheading. In the Glade ferns were planted into the stumpery. Their soil was taken from the bottom of the rill pond, revealing it may well be stone lined – so that’s another bit of Peto design history revealed.

Elsewhere Carolyn had a big job on, to clean Daisy’s from top to toe after the really busy Open Day last weekend.
